Natural Movement Training

A human being has a huge variety of movements available, and a movement system far more sophisticated than any current technology. Most modern day humans, however, perform a small fraction of these movements, and those movements they perform poorly. The one thing most modern humans seem to be good at is sitting in chairs, and they do it far too frequently.

Movement is tied to every physiologic process in your body - we are, literally, made to move. Recapturing your natural movement potential is a path to a healthier, stronger, more fit body. Walking, running, jumping, crawling and rolling, getting down and up from the ground, climbing, throwing and catching, carrying… mindful practice of all these natural movement patterns builds strength, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, neurologic efficiency, improves balance and fall recovery, improves cognitive function, builds resiliency in bones and other tissues - the benefits are endless.

Complex movements utilizing the whole body utilize our movement systems to their full capacity in ways isolated exercises cannot; the body knows movement patterns not muscles. The added benefit of training in natural movement skills is that these movements are practical in everyday life - you never know when you may end up on the floor and need to get back to your feet, or when you will need to carry a heavy load or run from a dangerous situation. Being able to move effectively in a way that is natural for the human body results in being prepared to use your body for whatever situation may arise.

I’ve trained in the MovNat system of natural movement education, and have studied French physical educator Georges Hébert’s Méthode Naturalle.
